How do I locate my GAGEtrak database? If it's on my hard drive, should I move it to a server?
We recommend that your GTData65.mdb file is stored on and accessed from a server. To identify the name and location of your current database file, please open GAGEtrak. The drive letter, path and file name will be displayed in the lower right corner of GAGEtrak’s Main Menu form. The .mdb file is the file that needs to be moved, if it is on your hard drive. The default name for the GAGEtrak 6.5 and 6.6 Microsoft Access database is GTData65.mdb. You can use Windows Explorer or My Computer to copy and paste your database to the server. After you have relocated your GAGEtrak database, open GAGEtrak. While viewing GAGEtrak’s Main Menu, on the menu bar (upper left corner of the outside window), click File -> Open Database -> [Browse] button. Here, you can navigate to the location of your GAGEtrak database and open it. GAGEtrak will create links to this file, so that in the future, when you open GAGEtrak, it will find and open this file automatically. After you have successfully linked to your database on a server, it is always a good idea to disable the duplicate database you still have on your hard drive. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, return to the C:\Program Files\CyberMetrics Corp\GAGEtrak 6.5 folder (or other location of your database file) and rename the duplicate file. A good name for it is GTData65-BU.mm-dd-yyyy. Replacing the file extension with the current date will let you know that this database file is a backup copy of your data as of that date. Replacing the file extension will also prevent anyone from viewing this database file in the Open Database window in the future.
